Session Five: Social Media Trends

Wow... as social media evolves, it is pretty creepy as to what exactly social media trends are and what they have to offer to the social media platforms. As we all know, social media trend is the subject of many posts on a social media website or application within a short period of time.

In 2016, we saw live streaming becoming a trend and was getting bigger on the different social platforms, video content became a trend; where you could "live" and "in-the-moment" updates.
Live streaming became a playing field for marketers to conceptualize creative advertising strategies to promote their products and services. Facebook became the ultimate marketing channel for most companies and organizations. In 2016 we were also experiencing a push for more personalization and broader app functionality.

In 2017, influence marketing started to surge;  this aspect of marketing was interesting to me,  i experienced in my era, the notion of virtual influencers! As the name suggests, virtual influencers are virtual/cyber bots that firms use to model/ promote their products and services to their target audience. These influencers have their own personality and identity on social media which make them feel as real as ever because you are able to relate with them, even though, they are not real... creeped out yet?

I  have so many questions for the software developer!

With this new update, is it a case that companies are changing their minds from human-like influencers, because its easier to control brand reputation when fake?

How relatable are virtual influencers to the target audience if not real?

how can it "influence" me to buy the product if the influencer cannot tell me if the size "small" is too big?

In light of this, fast forward to 2018, I am able to see the evolution of influence marketing: from celebrity/social influencers ----> brand ambassadors ----> Virtual influencers.

Indeed 2018 faced many challenges, such as marketers having issues keeping up with the updates; Marketers also find it challenging to understand which platform works best for their audience and in return measuring their Return on investments (ROI). In addition, we also realize that 2018 have a big trend when it comes on to mobile-ready content.

I'm excited to see what 2019 brings!
Can we keep up?

Maybe we'll see more evolutions in 2019! Stay Tuned!

Until next time,
Stay Bless!
